Holiday Safety for Pets

1. The Holiday Tree
A holiday tree can look more like a playground than a holiday decoration to a curious cat. To keep pets safe, be sure to anchor your holiday tree well so it doesn’t tip and fall.
2. Decorative Dangers
Pets may think tinsel and ornaments are toys – but when ingested, these holiday decorations can obstruct the digestive tract, causing serious health concerns. Ornaments and tinsel should be kept out of your pet’s reach at all times.
3. Gift Safety
Avoid giving pets toys that can be chewed into pieces. There is always the risk of pieces of a chewed toy becoming lodged in a pet’s esophagus or digestive tract. Although cats love yarn and ribbon, the long fibers can also cause intestinal blockages. When giving gifts to furry family members, it’s best to stick to safer toys (like kongs and balls) and healthy treats instead.
4. Festive Plants
Some holiday plants, when ingested, can cause health problems for pets. Avoid decorative plants such as holly, mistletoe, poinsettias and lilies – which can be the most dangerous. Even pine needles, when ingested, can wreck havoc in your pet’s intestines – so keep your pet away from fallen needles.
5. Human Food
Holiday foods, including fatty meats (especially roasts with bones), gravy, spicy foods, sweets and chocolate should all be kept far away from pets. Make sure to keep your pets away from the holiday table and unattended plates of food.
6. Holiday Beverages
Alcoholic beverages are dangerous when ingested by pets and should never be left on tables that are within your pet’s reach.
7. Holiday Lighting
Don’t leave lighted candles unattended. Be sure candles are placed on a stable surface and always put the flames out prior to leaving a room.
8. Reduce Stresses
The excitement of the holiday season can be stressful for pets, triggering possible illness and intestinal upset. If you’re hosting any holiday parties, make sure pets have a safe place to retreat in your house. And make sure they are wearing current I.D. in case they escape out a door when guests come and go.
9. Tree Water
Standing/stagnant tree water can grow bacteria (making it unsafe for pets to drink) – so it’s best to keep your pet away from the trees so they are not tempted to sip the water.
10. Poison Control
If you believe that your pet might have eaten something toxic, call your veterinarian and Animal Poison Control Center immediately.

How can you think of me as vain???

Two thoughts:
1. I’m a cutie, aren’t I? I could look at myself all day……………
2. Why does Mom wash the sheets right after I get them “perfect” – full of my fur and dog-smelly?

Suicidal Rabbits

So for my rabbit followers out there – can one of you please explain to me why you’d run right in front of me when I’m our for a walk?  Are you trying to get yourself killed?  Is this some weird rabbit form of the game chicken?  Don’t you have anything better to do, like nibble grass and make little rabbits??

Napping between window sightings

Sometimes I gotta take a break and nap when I've been looking out the window for a long time.  I can only hope that I don't miss a rabbit, squirrel, or roadrunner run by...........

Yippee! A Dog Park!!!

Sorry it took so long to write about the dog park here at the Sands RV & Golf Resort - when I'm not playing my my new friends or chasing sticks my dad throws, I'm sleep because I'm so tired from all the running.

So the dog park is about an acre big - is fenced on three sides and has a duck pond on the other. Now, we all know I'm a bit of a runner, even been known to run away of something catches my interest, but I do not like to get wet, so the pond keeps me where I am safe. There are a couple parkbenches for the humans to sit, some palm trees - very tall - fresh water and lots of friendly dogs.  The park is so big I can run as fast as I can -  I love it!

Carnage of a Stuffed Toy

So I have this "thing," shall we say. I like to destroy all small stuffed toys.  This was a stuffed bone. The results only took a minute or two. I'm lucky, however, as Mom & Dad get me inexpensive toys to destroy.  If it wasn't for that, then I'd go through my allowance pretty darn quick feeding my habit.  Ironically, I never destroy things that aren't mine. I learned long ago - don't piss-off those that feed you!

My Thanks on Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving Day!

Of course, I’m thankful for the plate of food I’ll have later today – Mom & Dad always give me a small plate with some turkey, mashed potatoes and veggies. For dessert, I’ll have a Greenie! But there are some more serious things I’m thankful for:

1. Animal Shelters. I was in two before finding my Mom & Dad – Saving Grace and the Oregon Humane Society. I’m thankful there were kind people, a warm place to stay, and some yummy food to keep me safe and healthy until I found them. I know not all pets are this lucky.

2. My cozy beds. Yes, I have multiple beds – the one Mom & Dad purchased for me, theirs, and the couch. Sometimes I let Mom & Dad on the latter two, but rarely.

3. Dirty dishes! Sometimes I get to lick the plates before they are washed – yum!!!

4. My Dad ~ he takes me on walks, plays with me at the beach, and plays “tug” in the morning when I get bored if there’s no Animal Planet on TV.

5. My Mom ~ she found me at OHS, buys me yummy treats and keeps me in toys, as I tend to destroy them.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my 4-legged friends out there! You 2-legged ones as well!

See How Tough I Look!

Check me out! Do I not look amazingly tough! Oh yeah - I got tired of hearing, "Oh, what a cute puppy!" when left alone in the truck, so I googled "tough looking dog expressions" and practiced my "look".  Now when I wait in the truck for Mom & Dad, I sit there with this menacing stare.  Oh yeah, I am rockim'-sockim; tough!

Hiking with 4 Legs - White Domes Loop Trail, Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

Here I am on another hike - White Domes Loop Trail.  I really, really wanted to be off-leash on the hike, but as you may recall, I'm eternally grounded from being off-leash. Again, and it bears repeating - as far as the reasons why I can't go off-leash in open areas, it wasn't my fault - I was framed.

Hiking the Rainbow Vista Trail - but where was the ocean???

Here I am on the Rainbow Vista Trail! I had a great time!  I pulled Mom & Dad all over, hunted for rodents, and stuck my nose in many-a-hole! What I didn't understand was - where was the ocean? I felt sand under my feet, but there was no roar, no salt smell, nothing. Strange.......

Happy Halloween!!

I'm going as a Devil Dog for Halloween. Mom & Dad keep saying how appropriate this costume is for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I''ll be at Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada - hope our neighbors bring dog treats, 'cuz I plan to do some serious trick-or-treating!

Waiting for my Parents

Sometimes my parents leave me in the car when they go shopping or eat at restaurants.  I really don't mind it at all - I get to people-watch/smell and hear lots of comments like, "Oh, how cute!"  (Of course I assume these comment refer to me and not the new shoes someone just purchased.)  Often Mom & Dad bring me a little bite of something they ate, which is a nice way of them asking for my forgiveness for them not buying me an entire steak.  I usually forgive them, too, since you know, they provide me with food, shelter, toys, etc....

A Patch of Sun

Sometimes there isn't a lot of sun in which to bask, so you have to curl-up and grab some where you can!

My Window

There are many windows I can look out when Mom & Dad leave me alone, but this is my favorite - on the top of the stairs and just my level to see, smell and listen to the world go by.

My Bed & Pillow

I love my bed (almost as much as the sofa & parents’ bed) and love, love my pillow. I snore less when I put my head on my pillow. However, what I do NOT love is that the exact point I get my bed stinky & smelly to just the right amount, and that perfect layer of fur all over it, Mom washes it and I have to start all over with the process! Grrrr………

My First Hotel Room!

So if you follow my parent’s blog, we had some roof trouble with our RV, and we stayed in a hotel room for two nights. Wow! This is my first time in a hotel, and it’s pretty fun - I like the two queen beds – it’s like a dog agility course – running all around and jumping to/from both beds – wahoo!

Unfortunately, I think my parents learned that they’re not the reason I climb into bed with them every night, but the bed itself. I got an entire queen bed t myself both nights – wahoo again!!
